A funnel in the paramera

A doline sinkhole generally develops from an active surface swallow hole: surface runoff infiltrates the limestone rock, dissolves the mineral matrix, and causes the overlying ground to collapse into a funnel shape. The Hoyón de Ródenas is an impressive example: 150 metres in diameter and 50 metres deep, with walls covered by kermes and holm oaks.

Outside the Park, yet adjacent

Situated on the Alto de la Casilla ridge, next to the Ermita de los Santos de la Piedra, in Teruel province. It makes a worthwhile outing on foot or mountain bike, taking in the Mirador de los Tres Santos and the historic stone Hoyón cistern. For comparison within Guadalajara, visit the Hoyón de Motos.
