A portal from the Christian repopulation
Tartanedo was one of the key settlements of the Sexma del Campo district. Its parish church, dedicated to San Bartolomé, incorporates work from multiple centuries, but its finest element is the Romanesque portal dating from the repopulation era, sheltered beneath an ample atrium.
Beasts carved in stone
The portal capitals merit close observation: they are carved with chimeric beasts, ferocious and bold, characteristic of the medieval Romanesque bestiary. They served as both spiritual warning and symbolic instruction for those entering the sacred space.
Nearby
Along the same lane stands the Casa de los Utrera, and within the wider municipality lie two other Romanesque gems: Santa Catalina de Hinojosa and the church of Labros.
