La Sierra mushroom-gathering controlled zone

In the Alto Tajo many woodlands are controlled mushroom-gathering zones: harvesting is permitted with an official permit and daily quotas. Following spring and autumn rains, pine woods fill with fungi. Inquire about permits and designated zones before gathering.

Mushroom gathering with rules

Foraging for wild mushrooms is an increasingly popular pursuit, and the Alto Tajo offers prime habitat. To preserve forest health, harvesting is regulated: in controlled zones an official permit is mandatory, and daily harvest quotas apply per person.

Before you set out

Check permit requirements with the corresponding town hall and read our guide to mushrooms of the Alto Tajo. In case of any uncertainty, never consume a wild mushroom without consulting an expert.
