An exceptional canyon
Most gorges and canyons across the Iberian Peninsula are carved in carbonate rocks, such as limestone. The Arandilla, by contrast, is carved through Triassic sandstones and conglomerates, making it distinctive within Castilla-La Mancha. Strata of differing resistance erode at uneven rates, leaving recesses, ledges, natural cavities, and fanciful shapes.
What to see
Red sandstone walls, the river, and the hermitage of Virgen de Montesinos, accompanied by its recreation area. An enjoyable location for a day out.
