Bocanegra Resurgence (Ojal Morena), Poveda de la Sierra
The Bocanegra resurgence, also called Ojal Morena, is an intermittent groundwater emergence beside the Hoz stream at the road junction from Poveda de la Sierra towards Peñalén. It is dry most of the year, but after several days of heavy rain the karst fills and the spring bursts into a cascade visible from the road.

When the mountain overflows
Bocanegra is the relief valve of an aquifer. Its recharge area lies south of the Avellano ravine: rainwater infiltrates there and circulates through underground conduits until exiting through this opening. Its siphons change level with any shower, but only when the karst is full does water burst out forcefully.
Seeing it or not seeing it
Most days, when passing by, you will see nothing. Choose a day after several days of heavy rain and you will likely find a small burst forming a cascade.
How to get there
