A green canyon on the paramera
From the elevated, cold paramera plateau surrounding Herrería de Santa Cristina, deep gorges descend towards the Guadiela River. Hoz Somera is among the most scenic. Its humid hollows sustain, even in midsummer, lush vegetation: white poplars, black poplars, lindens, and hazel trees on the gorge floor, with a verdant mantle clothing cliffs rising up to 200 metres.
Exploring the canyon
Along the bottom runs the stream of Hoz Somera with seasonal flow. Hikers can advance up to where water becomes permanent; beyond that point, progressing requires technical canyoning gear and experience.
