Gaudí was never here
In Rillo de Gallo, a village of a few dozen inhabitants near Molina, stands a house resembling Barcelona’s architecture. Locals call it Gaudí’s house, but the Catalan architect never visited. It was constructed by Juan Antonio Martínez Moreno, a local builder inspired by Gaudí’s creations such as La Pedrera.
Built without architectural plans
Much like Gaudí himself, he worked without blueprints, assisted by a bricklayer and a blacksmith, incorporating extensive recycled building materials from his construction jobs. The result blends stone, wrought iron, and trencadís (broken ceramic mosaic).
What to observe
The facade features colourful curved roofs, inclined doorways, irregular corners, a sculpted snake ascending the wall, frogs along cornices, eyes, sunflowers, and sphinxes guarding the entrance. It is a private home, visible from the street. In the same village lie the rock art shelters.
