Tajuña gorges: 11 km of river between Anguita and Luzón
The Tajuña gorges follow around 11 km of river between Anguita and Luzón, very close to its source in Maranchón. The river winds gently between limestone plateaux to the north and red conglomerates and sandstones to the south, carving bends, caves and eroded shapes. A dirt track and paths run along the valley, through thick riverside vegetation.

A newly born river
The Tajuña rises very nearby, in the territory of Maranchón, and between Anguita and Luzón it winds for about 11 kilometres through one of the most beautiful and ecologically valuable stretches of its course.
Two types of rock
With very gentle slope, the river runs slowly between two worlds: to the north, the limestone paramera of Maranchón; to the south, older rocks, conglomerates and red sandstones. Mid-way along the stretch it has carved astonishing bends, caves, and erosion landforms. On the valley floor grows a dense riverbank of shrubs and black poplars.
How to explore them
A dirt track links Anguita and Luzón along the bottom of the gorges and is passable for all types of vehicles, although it is enjoyed much more on foot or by bicycle. From the edge of Anguita a circular path leads through a small canyon where the water flows through a cavern. Along the way lie La Cava and the watchtower of Luzón.
