Alustante Windmill

The Alustante windmill first appears in records in the 1860 Gazeteer; its build date is unknown. Oral tradition relates it stood beside a pine wood and that villagers gathered firewood on milling trips. By 1886 it had stopped working, and another tradition says its sails burned in February 1917.

A mill full of questions

No written records survive from before the second half of the 19th century. The earliest notice is the 1860 Gazetteer. According to oral accounts from the 1870s, the mill stood near a pine forest, and locals going to grind grain took advantage of the journey to gather firewood.

The end

By 1886, the Sigüenza Diocesan Gazetteer already notes that in Alustante “there is a windmill, which is out of use.” Another local tradition recalls that its sails burned during the bitter cold of February 1917. Located in Alustante.
