A woodland giant beside the water

Beneath the shade of the historic communal washhouse in Pinilla de Molina stands a massive black poplar (Populus nigra): standing approximately 20 metres tall with a trunk perimeter of 6.24 metres measured at chest height. It represents in all likelihood the largest and oldest black poplar documented in the Molina-Alto Tajo comarca.

The tree of the washhouse

For generations, village women washed laundry in its cooling shade. The communal washhouse was restored years ago, and together the tree and stone structure offer a peaceful spot on summer afternoons.

Another veteran poplar

On the outskirts of Pinilla, on the road toward the cemetery, grows another remarkable black poplar, known as the Árbol de la Cigüeña (Stork Tree), reaching 21.5 metres in height and nearly five metres in circumference.
