Church of Santo Domingo de Guzmán (Algar de Mesa)
The church of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, in the centre of Algar de Mesa, is a 16th-century building raised over an earlier Romanesque church, whose outline is still visible in the ground plan. From the Renaissance build the semicircular entrance arch survives, damaged in the Civil War. Inside, the Baroque baptismal font and side chapel stand out.

Two churches in one
In the centre of Algar de Mesa, the last village in the Señorío downstream along the Mesa River before Aragon, the parish church of Santo Domingo de Guzmán is a 16th-century building constructed over an earlier Romanesque church. Looking at the floor plan, you can still trace both building phases.
What remains
From the Renaissance rebuild, the semicircular arch of the entrance survives, heavily damaged during the Civil War. Inside, notable Baroque features include the baptismal font and the side chapel beside the sacristy.
The valley
Algar makes a good base for exploring the Mesa valley, with the castle of Villel and the Tormo de Mochales upstream.
