A village of historic prosperity

Milmarcos was in the early 20th century a significant commercial and livestock hub in the northern Señorío, and this prosperity remains clearly visible when walking its streets. It retains an impressive collection of manors and palaces built by prosperous families during the 18th and 19th centuries.

What to see

  • The church of San Juan Bautista, a 16th-century Renaissance building containing a magnificent 17th-century Mannerist altarpiece.

  • The ermita de Jesús Nazareno, dating from the second half of the 18th century.
  • The Teatro Zorrilla, the most curious reminder of that early-20th-century peak: a dedicated theatre building in a highland agricultural village.
