Mirador del Tajo (Zaorejas): raptors and the Puente de San Pedro tufa

The Mirador del Tajo, also called Zaorejas viewpoint, sits on a ledge of the cliff beside La Escaleruela, very near Puente de San Pedro. It is one of the best spots in the Alto Tajo for raptors, with griffon vultures flying even below the viewpoint, and is adapted for accessibility.

Raptors below your feet

The viewpoint stands at the top of a stepped cliff, with bands of evergreen vegetation between rocky ledges. That setting makes it one of the finest places in the Park for seeing birds of prey. The griffon vulture is almost guaranteed, either at its nest ledges or soaring beneath the lookout, and with patience you may spot Egyptian vultures, peregrine falcons, golden eagles, and Bonelli’s eagles.

The tufa from above

From here you appreciate the true scale of the Puente de San Pedro tufa formation, which the road cuts right through, and you can see the waterfall of La Escaleruela right next to it.

Accessible

The surrounding area was adapted with universal accessibility criteria, making it one of the few viewpoints in the Park that almost anyone can visit.

Planning the visit

Choose this stop to understand the shape of the canyon and place the river in its landscape. If combining it with Georuta 4, check the full itinerary before setting out.

Before you go

The panoramic views do not justify stepping close to the cliff edge. Bring warm clothing for the wind and verify access; a viewpoint’s location does not guarantee you can drive right up to it.
