El Rasón: viewpoint over the Tagus and Hoz Seca confluence

El Rasón is a natural balcony at over 1,600 metres altitude, at the southern tip of Muela de la Ribagorda in Peralejos de las Truchas. Beneath your feet the mountain drops sheer to the Hoz Seca River, with views of the Tagus canyon, their confluence, and Sierra de Molina. An isolated spot where Spanish ibex can be seen.

Gazing into the drop

El Rasón is not a developed viewpoint, but an unfenced natural balcony. Beneath your feet the slope plunges down to the Hoz Seca River, and the view spans the Hoz Seca gorge, the Tagus canyon, and the confluence of both rivers. On the horizon rise the peaks of Sierra de Molina, with the heights of Orea, Orihuela, Checa, and Alcoroches.

Cliff wildlife

Thanks to its isolation and sheer crags, it is a good spot to observe Spanish ibex, which move easily across these vertical drops.

Getting there and precautions

The trail climbs from the Ermita de la Ribagorda, taking the left-hand track before reaching the chapel. There are no safety railings: keep back from the edge and avoid unnecessary risks.
