A village of nobles

Among the traditional stone houses of Peralejos de las Truchas, several noble mansions stand out, characterized by large wooden portals and carved coats of arms on their facades. They bear witness to the noble families that accumulated wealth through livestock and wool trade in one of the most prominent transhumant villages of the Señorío.

The main mansions

  • The casona de los Sanz, dating from the 16th century and largely rebuilt in 1670 by canon, royal councillor, and inquisitor Mateo Sanz Caja, who added an adjoining private chapel.
  • The Jiménez mansion, from the 17th century, located on Calle de la Cañada, a street name that reflects the passage of transhumant livestock herds.
  • The Casa Grande de los Arauz, erected in 1816. This family included Enrique Arauz Estremera, a physician and mayor who documented how the district representatives (sesmeros) were elected beneath the Roble de la Sexma.
  • The Díaz mansion.
