Fire, water, and iron
Historic hydraulic ironworks utilized the force of running water to power bellows and heavy trip-hammers (martinetes). The Morencos works, built of rubble masonry with dressed ashlars, stands out for its substantial size: it represents one of the most imposing industrial heritage buildings in the region.
Renowned iron quality
For centuries, this forge produced iron highly valued for its ductility and tensile toughness. It is the only known ironworks established along the Hoz Seca River and among the most prominent in the Alto Tajo.
Although ruined today, its scale remains easily legible. It can also be viewed from Mirador de la Cuesta del Acebar. Close by lies the Puente del Martinete.
