Natural Park advisory

In 2025 the trail suffered damage along one section. The Natural Park recommends completing only the branch leading to the Tagus bank and returning along the same path, which presents no difficulty.

To the river

Park at the small parking spots at the entrance to Huertapelayo, a hamlet of Zaorejas, next to El Chorrero. The footpath climbs between small plots into shaded boxwood undergrowth up to a saddle featuring gullies of Utrillas sand formations. Soon vistas of the Tagus open up and you descend to a river meander lined with riparian gallery forest; with luck, dipper, trout, or otter may be seen. In summer most of this stretch lies in shade.

The circular return

When fully practicable, the circular trail (walked clockwise) climbs steeply through black pine and gall oak, ascending a dry gully to Era de Valdesillo, returning to Collado de las Arenas. In the pine hollow multiple old paths cross: stay focused on trail markers.

Before you set out

Carry water, mountain footwear, and download the GPS track in advance: mobile reception is absent in many areas. Check the forecast on Today in the Alto Tajo and the official trail sheet for notices and closures, and respect seasonal restrictions during raptor breeding periods.
