A church of the Christian repopulation

At the top of the village of Armallones, at the gateway to the Alto Tajo, stands a 13th-century Romanesque church. Internally it is modest: a single nave divided into four bays by wall pilasters, terminating in a chancel and a semicircular apse.

The portal

Its most distinctive feature is outside. The portal consists of a semicircular arch with three projecting archivolts. Decoration is austere: carved mouldings on the outer ring, a fine chequerboard band (taqueado jaqués) on the central ring, and a simple chamfer on the inner ring, resting upon smooth pilasters. Above the western facade rises a stone bell-gable (espadaña) built over masonry walls.
