The Molina manor house
Tortuera is one of the places where the architecture of the Molina manor house (casa grande molinesa) is best understood: masonry facade, a large semicircular voussoired arched gateway, a family coat of arms above the entrance, flanking ground-floor windows, and hand-forged wrought iron grilles on the upper floor. These were the residences of the local gentry whose wealth derived from agriculture and wool.
