Pairones of El Pedregal
El Pedregal preserves five pairones, the stone pillars that in the Señorío de Molina announce the arrival at a village and mark its roads. The San Pedro pairón, on the Setiles road, is a 19th-century stone work. The pillars are still used on the feast of the May Cross to bless the fields.

The pairones
Pairones are one of the hallmarks of the Señorío de Molina: stone pillars with a niche or cross, raised at the entrances to villages and at crossroads. They welcomed travellers, signalled that a settlement lay ahead, and pointed the direction. Simple monuments of an austere land, as the local residents’ association puts it.
Those of El Pedregal
El Pedregal once had four pairones and today has five. One of them, dedicated to San Pedro, stands on the road to Setiles and is a stone work from the 19th century.
Still in active use
They are not just decorative relics: on the feast of the May Cross (Cruz de Mayo), villagers still process to them to bless the crops. More on wayside pillars and paths in roads and drover routes.
