Torre de Aragón: Molina's Pentagonal Watchtower and Interpretation Centre

The Torre de Aragón is a 12th-century watchtower crowning the hill of Molina de Aragón, north of the castle. It has three storeys and a pentagonal exterior plan with a prow facing Aragon to deflect artillery projectiles, though its interior has four walls. Since 2006 it houses the Molina Castle Interpretation Centre, with 360-degree views from its roof terrace.

The prow towards Aragon

At the highest point of Molina de Aragón, north of the castle, stands the Torre de Aragón, a 12th-century watchtower. On the outside it is pentagonal: the side facing Aragon ends in a point, like a prow, to better withstand projectiles. Inside, curiously, it has four walls. It has three storeys and is surrounded by an embattled enclosure.

An interpretation centre

Since 2006, after its excavation and restoration, it has housed the Interpretation Centre of the Castle of Molina de Aragón. The visit explains the military function of the tower, but also daily life, the organisation of the territory, and the nature of this frontier land. From the terrace the entire district can be seen in 360 degrees.

Visiting

It is visited together with the castle; check opening hours at the Molina tourist office.
