Two sections

  • Checa – Tres Provincias boundary marker – Orea: mountain tracks between 1,500 and 1,600 m, uneven surface and loose stone; exercise caution on descents. Woodland birdlife predominates: northern goshawk, sparrowhawk, common buzzard, booted eagle, red crossbills. Here live the finest red deer populations in the Park, and the rutting calls are readily heard in early autumn.
  • Orea – Alcoroches – Checa: mountain pastures with broom and rockroses, then Scots pine forest to Alcoroches and returning to Checa by road.

A rest stop

Before arriving at Checa, the recreation area Fuente de los Vaqueros, featuring meadows and massive Scots and black pines; in season, plentiful wild mushrooms. From here departs Sendero 16. The route crosses Sierra Molina.

By bicycle

Before you set out

Carry water, mountain footwear, and download the GPS track in advance: mobile reception is absent in many areas. Check the forecast on Today in the Alto Tajo and the official trail sheet for notices and closures, and respect seasonal restrictions during raptor breeding periods.
