How to travel the route

Georoutes are not standard hiking paths: they are thematic itineraries with numbered stops, interpretive panels, and outcrop plaques, linked by car or bicycle, with some sections walked on foot. The official self-guided brochure explains each stop.

The stops

  • 1: next to the tower atop Riba de Saelices, a viewpoint over the valley.
  • 2: the riverside recreation area, about 2 km along an unpaved track, five minutes’ walk from Cueva de los Casares. The cave is visited by prior appointment via the Archaeological Network of Castilla-La Mancha.
  • 3 to 7: on foot through the valley among sandstone cliffs, up to the spires of Los Milagros. This stretch coincides with Sendero 4, where the Natural Park has issued an advisory regarding the state of the Linares River fords.
  • 8: the saltpans of Saelices de la Sal, beside the road, currently under restoration.

Geology and landscape

Limestones, sandstones, and clays divide the valley, each fostering distinct vegetation and human uses: kitchen gardens, pastures, salt. It offers the clearest illustration that in the Alto Tajo, landscape begins with rock.

Before you set out

Carry water, mountain footwear, and download the GPS track in advance: mobile reception is absent in many areas. Check the forecast on Today in the Alto Tajo and the official trail sheet for notices and closures, and respect seasonal restrictions during raptor breeding periods.
