Grobias Chasm: A 45-Metre Open-Air Vertical Shaft
Las Grobias chasm, near the road from Peralejos de las Truchas to Chequilla, has a single open-air shaft, 45 metres deep beneath a great dome. Cavers especially value it for free-hanging abseiling, as sunlight illuminates the whole shaft during the descent. Club Viana renewed its rigging in 2013.

An illuminated void
What makes this chasm special is the light: as you descend its 45-metre shaft, the sun illuminates it completely and no torch is needed. Above, a grand rock dome accentuates the feeling of void.
Only for those with the skills
The descent is a free-hanging abseil, so it requires training in vertical techniques and gear. It was re-equipped by Club Viana in 2013.
Safety
This is not a cave arranged for tourism. It should only be explored with caving experience, proper gear, and accompanied, always informing someone of your route. Respect bats: do not enter during breeding or hibernation periods.
