Kilometres of highland silence
Reaching San Lorenzo requires traversing Sierra Molina through kilometres of unbroken quiet. It is the most remote chapel of Checa and one of the most isolated shrines in the entire Natural Park.
The hermitage
Erected in the 18th century, it features a rectangular plan spanning two levels, built of local rubble masonry with dressed ashlar stones at corners, doorway, and windows, whitewashed inside and out. The carving of Saint Lawrence is kept on site throughout the year.
The pilgrimage
Every 10 August, on the feast of Saint Lawrence, villagers undertake a communal pilgrimage to celebrate outdoor mass. The hermitage lies along stage 2 of the GR-113, Tagus Natural Trail.
